DrDrone's Verdict
The Mavic 3 Pro looks very similar to the other Mavic 3 aircraft we have already seen like the Mavic 3 original or the Mavic 3 Classic. It does not have the beacon or the PSDK port that you see on the Mavic 3 Enterprise series. The biggest standout feature is the triple sensor Hasselblad camera that looks quite a lot like Darth Vader’s helmet. The camera offers three different focal lengths with independent camera sensors. The main camera powered by the 4/3 CMOS 20MP sensor similar to the Mavic 3 Classic, with a 24mm focal length for wide shots. The medium tele camera has a 48MP 1/1.3” sensor behind a 70mm lens and the tele camera has a ½” 12MP sensor behind a 166mm lens. This camera setup is quite unique and has never been done before on a consumer drone.
In our testing, the Mavic 3 Pro flew flawlessly, just like other Mavic 3 aircraft. Flight times were long and flight was precise. The 360 obstacle avoidance and ActiveTrack features work great and the drone was quick to reacquire the target if it was lost. The imaging performance of the Mavic 3 Pro was absolutely delightful with crisp, stunning imagery from any of the three cameras. The main camera has incredible low light performance and dynamic range which helps it capture virtually noise free footage in low light conditions. The three cameras gave us a lot of flexibility in the types of shots we captured with minimal effort. The Night Shots feature applies complex noise reduction to the captured imagery to significantly reduce noise.
Overall, the DJI Mavic 3 Pro provides a huge upgrade in imaging over its predecessor while using the tried and tested Mavic 3 airframe thus creating an excellent aerial imaging platform suitable even for the most demanding users.
Pros:
Cons:
DJI has just released another upgrade to its Mavic series of drones with the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, a triple-camera system that represents an incredible advancement in camera drone technology. With the DJI Mavic 3 Pro, you get three separate lenses all combined in one powerful drone. You can play around with multiple focal lengths to find greater creativity within each and every shot. The drone has superior multi-scenario capabilities, as its display allows you to switch back and forth between focal lengths with ease. You can let your inspiration be the guide as you sift through different composition styles until you find your own unique match.
The first lens is the 4/3 CMOS Hasselblad camera, which builds upon the Hasselblad camera of the Mavic 3 series. This camera is the perfect fit for professional photographers, as it can create both 20MP photos as well as 12-bit RAW photos for breathtaking clarity in your images.
The larger sensor offers higher resolution, dynamic range, and better noise suppression in low-light environments. No matter what kind of lighting you’re shooting in, you’ll be sure to capture clean and grain-free images.
The Hasselblad camera also features a native dynamic range of up to 12.8 stops, which captures even greater detail in both highlights and shadows. The wider dynamic range will result in more natural transitions between highlights and lowlights, adding depth to images without losing any of the rich visual information in the shot.
Other features of the Hasselblad camera include aperture adjustment, which allow you to cater to the variety of lighting situations you find when filming up in the sky. It’s also equipped with a 24mm equivalent autofocus lens with an 84° field of view, which widens the amount of detail you can capture in every shot. Lastly, the camera is equipped with Vision Detection Auto Focus (VDAF) technology, which uses multiple vision sensors to calculate distance data and optimize focusing speed. Every detail of the Hasselblad camera is designed to give you greater creative control over filming, no matter the time or the place.
The Hasselblad camera features the signature Hasselblad Natural Color Solution (HCNS), which captures natural colors with incredible accuracy and minimizes the need for presets or post-production editing. While the camera films, the sensor obtains RGB color data that is then converted through Hasselblad’s unique image processing algorithm and color processing mode. The L2D-20c lens is calibrated with HCNS in every pixel to ensure the camera captures color just as strikingly as other Hasselblad cameras. You won’t need complex post-processing with this camera, as HCNS makes sure natural and accurate colors are captured down to the pixel level of the sensors.
The next camera in the Mavic 3 Pro triple-camera system is a medium tele camera, which is a versatile choice that works with a variety of themes and scenes. By compressing the depth of field and focusing in on the subject, it creates a distinct visual center of gravity that gives the camera movement greater sense of space. This allows you to focus on following wherever inspiration takes you while the drone performs its magic. The medium tele camera also allows you to shoot timelapse video via 3x optical zoom, while its 70mm focal length offers a unique spatial compression effect that will add a cinematic look to your photos.
The last camera in the DJI Mavic 3 Pro is an upgraded tele camera with a wider f/3.4 aperture and higher resolution. This camera allows for 4K/60fps video recording, 12MP photo capture, and a powerful 7x optical zoom. The hybrid zoom function can even reach as far as 28x, giving you the freedom to zoom in and plant yourself right in the midst of crystal-clear image details. Instead of risking the safety of the aircraft, you can easily observe your subject from a distance. Whether you’re filming animals from afar, scouting a snow-capped mountain, or filming closeups of tall buildings, the soom feature ensures an efficient and peaceful flight without sacrificing quality.
The DJI Mavic 3 Pro isn’t only useful for shooting breathtaking photos. The drone also features incredible video capabilities, including 5.1K Video Recording and DCI 4K/120fps. The 70mm focal length adds a special touch to your photos and allows you to create gorgeous visual stories. If you record in HLG mode, then you can retain even more color information and highlight details. When the time comes for post-production, you’ll have even more flexibility to play around with the footage. You can even shoot a hyperlapse video to give your shot a cool effect of time passing quickly.
It even includes a new 10-bit D-Log M color mode that can record up to one billion colors. This feature captures natural color gradations with fine detail, even when shooting in tricky lighting situations such as sunrises and sunsets. You get the full-spectrum visual experience with an even simpler color grading process, making post-production a breeze without compromising on either quality or clarity in your images.
This feature comes only with the Mavic 3 Pro Cine, a professional-grade tool that gives you even more options for video recording. All three of the cameras in the Mavic 3 Pro Cine support Apple ProRes 422 HQ, Apple ProRes 422, and Apple ProRes 422 LT encoding, which allow for high-quality video recording. The Mavic 3 Pro Cine also comes with a built-in 1TB SSD and a 10Gbps lightspeed data cable, both of which allow you to manage and transfer your files with greater freedom and ease.
Another advanced safety feature is Advanced Return to Home (RTH), a feature that automatically finds the safest route back to the takeoff point. In the event that you lose signal or decide to trigger the return, the Mavic 3 Pro will immediately fly the safest route back to you and complete a safe landing on its own.
The DJI Mavic 3 Pro puts safety first with its omnidirectional obstacle avoidance system. With wide-angle vision sensors facing every angle and a powerful computing engine, the drone can detect obstacles and plan safe flight paths around them. You won’t have to worry about the drone’s safety while in the air, allowing you to focus on the creative work while the drone keeps itself safe.
APAS 5.0 is another safety feature that helps detect and avoid obstacles in all directions. With APAS 5.0 equipped, the drone can fly in complex environments while recording smooth footage without interruption. If you’re flying in a place with many obstacles, APAS 5.0 allows you to navigate the environment automatically while you focus on filming your masterpiece.
Flight time is always an important factor in DJI drones, as you don’t want to stop your mission midflight to charge the drone. The Mavic 3 Pro has an extended 46-minute flight time that ensures you can perform every aspect of your mission in one flight. Route planning, composition, and even filming hyperlapse videos can all be done in one fell swoop thanks to the efficient propulsion system and large battery. The drone also has 50% higher wind resistance than its predecessor, ensuring no energy is wasted during flight.
Transmission range is another important factor in allowing you greater freedom in your flight. With Ocusync 3+, you can fly longer distances and send signals with greater stability and less delay. The drone even comes with an optional Cellular Transmission Dongle that connects to 4G networks to maintain a smooth, stable connection even when the O3+ signal is blocked by buildings or trees. The two systems work together during flight, allowing the signal to switch seamlessly back and forth for an uninterrupted flight.
The DJI Mavic 3 Pro can transmit a 1080p/60fps live feed with a max transmission range of 15 km, making it one of the first DJI drones capable of such a feat. This means that the camera view will display images at a resolution that’s almost identical to what the camera is actually recording. It will also be even more responsive to commands, limiting the delay between your controller and the drone’s reactions.
The basic remote controller for the Mavic 3 Pro is the DJI RC. The RC features a lightweight body, FHD display, and ultra-long battery life for a better flying experience. It provides low-latency HD 1080p/60fps live feed in a built-in 5.5-inch FHD screen that supports long-lasting brightness of up to 700 nits. The 4-hour runtime gives you enough battery to shoot at multiple locations on only one charge.
