Whispers from the tech world indicate that DJI might be making a significant move into the 360-degree camera market. They are potentially setting up a direct rivalry with Insta360 and the highly anticipated GoPro Max 2. The newest leak strongly suggests the DJI Osmo Action 360 could be launched as early as July 2025. From leaked images, it seems the DJI Osmo 360 could feature a tap-and-swipe touchscreen alongside three physical buttons for power, recording, and menu controls.
It appears that DJI may have opted for a somewhat distinct, compact, and square design, contrasting with the more elongated, stick-like forms often seen in Insta360's offerings. Reports suggest the device is approximately 6.5 centimeters (2.6 inches) wide and possibly around 9 centimeters tall.
Leaked screenshots of the camera's user manual reportedly mention features such as compatibility with the DJI Mimo app and the presence of a 1,950 mAh battery, which coincidentally appears to that bear a resemblance to those found in DJI's Osmo Action series. The technical specifications for the DJI Osmo 360 have not been located, but the hope is that it can record in 8K resolution or higher and shoot still photos of at least 72 MP, as seen on the Insta360 X4.
Leaked images of a teardown reportedly indicates that DJI may be mounting its camera sensors in a similar fashion to Insta360. Rather than having a sensor directly facing each lens, rumour has it that light first bounces off a 45-degree mirror before reaching the sensor. Images that were posted in March indicate that this sensor could be 1/1.3-inches in size.

According to what appears to be a quick start guide, the "OQ001" model is rumoured to include microSD storage, a USB-C charge port, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.1. The guide also mentions its ability to physically mount "various accessories." A particularly intriguing detail is the apparent presence of four copper contacts surrounding the unit's tripod mount, possibly hinting at an accessory interface that could provide power or data.
Given DJI's reputation, it's widely anticipated that the DJI Osmo 360 would incorporate advanced stabilization features to ensure smooth, professional-looking footage, potentially offering a strong challenge to existing market leaders. Given DJI's most recent releases, it's very likely that it will feature improved low-light performance and overall image quality compared to some current 360 cameras.
While these leaks and rumours paint a compelling picture, it's important to remember that these are not definitive statements from DJI. However, if the speculation holds true, it suggests DJI is preparing to introduce a highly anticipated and potentially competitive 360-degree camera to the market in the near future.
