One of the biggest rumors surrounding the new DJI FPV Drone called the DJI Avata is that it will be designed to be flyable indoors. This is made possible to what’s being described as a “cinewhoop” design, with built-in propeller guards that will reduce damage if and when the drone crashes. Previous leaks also show that the DJI Avata will weigh around 500g. This puts it over the 250g threshold for FAA regulations, which means that pilots will have to register it with the FAA if they want to fly it outdoors.

Leaks have also shown that the new DJI FPV drone will come with both a standard controller as well as an optional accessory of DJI’s motion controller. This motion controller was released as an optional accessory with DJI’s first FPV drone in 2021. It’s designed as a single joystick that allows you to pilot the drone with one hand using a few thumb-controls.

In the leaked video of the DJI Avata, the pilot is also wearing a pair of FPV goggles, just like the DJI FPV although they don’t look like the current pairs that DJI has previously released. This has led many to speculate that they are the upcoming DJI Goggles 2, which have a similar but more compact design. They come with only two antennas instead of the current goggles’ four, an also may be removable.
Not a lot has been leaked about the camera of the new DJI FPV drone, but a picture of its retail packaging has suggested the drone will be able to shoot 4K stabilized video. The box also boasts a palm-sized design and HD low-latency transmission. While we don’t know much about its camera specs, the leaker @DealsDrone has reported that it could be similar quality to the DJI Mini 3 Pro that was just recently released.

One final feature about the DJI Avata that we’ve gleaned from the leaked image of the box is that it seems to be powered by DJI AirSense. This is an alert system that uses ADS-B (Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast) technology to improve situational awareness. Its ADS-B transmitters gather flight data sent from nearby aircraft and analyze it to detect collision risks and alert users.
The one thing we don’t have a clear fix on is the release date for the DJI Avata. Earlier reports put its release at July or August 2022, but it’s since been delayed. It’s currently estimated to be released in the second half of 2022. With the videos of working prototypes that have been leaked, this seems more than likely to be true.
