For Canadian content creators, travelers, and casual enthusiasts, the wait is almost over. DJI, the global leader in civilian drones, is officially bringing its latest pocket-sized powerhouse, the DJI Neo 2, to the Canadian market in November 2025. Having already seen success in its initial launch across China and parts of Asia, the Neo 2 is poised to redefine the entry-level drone category by packing flagship-level intelligence and safety into an impossibly compact, ultra-lightweight frame.
This release is especially significant for Canadian pilots. Unlike the DJI Mini 5 Pro, which sits right at the edge of Transport Canada’s 250-gram microdrone threshold and can sometimes exceed it due to manufacturing tolerances, the DJI Neo 2 weighs just 151 grams (or even less in certain configurations). That puts it comfortably within the “Sub-250g” category, leaving no ambiguity about its classification.
Because of this, new pilots do not need registration or licensing, getting airborne quickly, safely, and legally across most of the country. The Neo 2 isn’t just another compact drone, it is a clear, regulation-friendly gateway to unrestricted aerial creativity.
The major draw of the Neo 2 is the substantial upgrade to its imaging system. While it remains ultra-portable, the camera delivers quality that is anything but "mini". At the core is a 1/2-inch image sensor, a size that allows for excellent light capture and detail retention. Paired with a bright f/2.2 aperture, it’s ready to handle the dramatic light of a Canadian sunrise or a cloudy coast. The lens features a wide 119.8° Field of View and an equivalent focal length of 16.5mm, providing an expansive perspective that’s perfect for capturing sweeping landscapes or fitting the entire crew into a group selfie. Where the Neo 2 truly shines is in its video capabilities, offering versatile shooting modes for every platform, up to 4K resolution at a max framerate of 100fps.
Crucially, the Neo 2 incorporates RockSteady stabilization. This electronic stabilization works in harmony with the drone's dual-axis mechanical gimbal which the previous model, the DJI Neo, lacked, to deliver footage that is remarkably steady, even when maneuvering through gusts of wind. For the truly dedicated filmmakers, the Neo 2 even supports the use of Gyroflow for advanced offline stabilization, a feature usually reserved for custom FPV builds.
Beyond the impressive camera hardware, the Neo 2 is simply a smarter, safer drone to operate. Its signature feature is the introduction of Omnidirectional Obstacle Sensing. This array of sensors, including LiDAR and a vision system, ensures the drone can see and avoid objects in nearly every direction. No more cringing when you bank around a tree. The drone is built to be your personal camera operator. Its ActiveTrack technology is significantly enhanced, capable of tracking subjects like cyclists or runners at speeds up to 44km/h (27mph).
Whether you're trail riding or jogging along a scenic route, the Neo 2 will keep you perfectly centered in the frame.
New pilots will particularly appreciate the intuitive control options: Palm Takeoff & Landing: Launch and retrieve the Neo 2 right from your hand. Gesture Control: Command the drone's position with simple hand gestures; no remote needed for quick, hands-free shots.
The DJI Neo 2’s arrival in Canada this November comes just in time for the holiday season, and its versatility makes it appealing to a wide range of users. For the adventurer, its lightweight, sub-250g portability and superior wind resistance make it the perfect travel companion for capturing the outdoors. For the vlogger, 4K/60fps recording, vertical video support, and intuitive tracking modes bring professional storytelling tools to creators on the go. And for the beginner pilot, omnidirectional obstacle sensing and simplified controls remove the learning curve from drone flight. Blending high-quality imaging, advanced flight intelligence, and the freedom of sub-250g operation, the DJI Neo 2 is set to become the benchmark for entry-level drones in Canada.
Mark your calendars: this November brings Canada’s next must-have aerial creativity tool, the DJI Neo 2.
